چکیده

Some novel numerical approaches to solving direct and inverse obstacle scattering problems are presented. Scattering by finite obstacles and by periodic structures is considered. The emphasis for solving direct scattering problem is on the Modified Rayleigh Conjecture method, recently introduced and tested by the authors. This method is used numerically in scattering by finite obstacles and by periodic structures. Numerical results it produces are very encouraging. The support function method for solving the inverse obstacle scattering problems is described and tested in some examples. Analysis of the various versions of linear sampling methods is given, and the limitations of these methods are described. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary 78A46, 65N21, Secondary 35R30.

The goal of this work is to show that the numerical solution of the obstacle scattering problem based on the MRC (modified Rayleigh conjecture) method is a competitive alternative to the BIEM (boundary integral equations method), and that it has numerical advantages which may be especially important in three-dimensional scattering problems with non-smooth domains, for example, with domains whos...

A Regularized Newton Method for the Solution of Inverse Obstacle Elasto-acoustic Scattering Problems

We are interested in the determination of the shape of an elastic obstacle from its effects on known incident acoustic waves. We propose a solution methodology based on a regularized Newton-type method to solve this inverse obstacle problem. At each Newton iteration, we solve the forward problems using a finite element solver based on discontinuous Galerkin approximations, and equipped with hig...

Fast spectral methods for the shape identification problem of a perfectly conducting obstacle

We are concerned with fast methods for the numerical implementation of the direct and inverse scattering problems for a perfectly conducting obstacle. The scattering problem is usually reduced to a single uniquely solvable modified combined-field integral equation (MCFIE). For the numerical solution of the M-CFIE we propose a new high-order spectral algorithm by transporting this equation on th...

Uniqueness and numerical methods in inverse obstacle scattering

The inverse problem we consider in this tutorial is to determine the shape of an obstacle from the knowledge of the far field pattern for scattering of time-harmonic plane waves. In the first part we will concentrate on the issue of uniqueness, i.e., we will investigate under what conditions an obstacle and its boundary condition can be identified from a knowledge of its far field pattern for i...
